FAQ for Expectant Parents
How soon after birth will the pediatrician see your baby?
Most hospitals ask for the name of your pediatrician when you are
admitted to deliver your baby. Your baby will be examined by the
pediatrician within the first 24 hours of life. If you are delivering
at Edward Hospital our doctors will be available to you and your baby.
This will give you an opportunity to get answers to any questions you
may have at that time. The doctor will let you know when to schedule
the first office visit for your baby. If you deliver your baby at a
hospital where our doctors are not on staff, please call our office
after delivery to arrange your baby's first exam.
When will your baby’s next exam take place?
Your first routine well exam for your baby will be at 2 weeks of age.
What to do about questions you have before your first office visit?
A registered nurse from ABC Pediatrics will be calling you within a
few days of your discharge from the hospital. Please feel free to
discuss any concerns with the nurse at that time. If you have not
heard from our office and have questions or concerns, please call us
at (630) 355-0003.
When is the office open?
Our office is open 7:30 AM on weekdays and 7:45 AM on Saturdays. Our
office closes at 7:30 PM Monday through Thursday and 6:00 PM on
Fridays.
What to do when the office is closed?
If you have a life threatening emergency, call 911. ABC Pediatrics
has a 24 hour answering service. If you have a question that can
wait, you may leave a voice mail message and someone will respond to
your message first thing in the morning of our next business day. If
you need prompt attention, you may call our number and the answering
service will page the doctor immediately. If you have not had a phone
call back from the doctor within 15 minutes for an emergency or 1 hour
for a routine call, you should call again and inform the answering
service you did not receive a call back from the doctor.
When to add your child to your health insurance policy?
As soon as your child is born, contact your employer's human resource
department or your insurance agent. Most insurance companies only
allow 30 days from the child's birth date to add a dependent to your
policy.
What to ask your insurance company?
Is ABC Pediatrics a participating provider in your insurance plan?
Does your insurance cover well care visits?
Does your insurance cover immunizations?

How often will your child be seen for well visits and immunizations?
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that your child should
be seen at two weeks, two, four, six, nine, twelve, fifteen, eighteen
and twenty-four months and annually after that. Immunizations will be
given at the two week, two, four, six, nine, twelve, fifteen and
eighteen month well examinations. It is important that your child be
scheduled for these examinations and immunizations.
